Pre/Post Treatment Care
PRE-TREATMENT CARE:
Please avoid using any over the counter benzoyl peroxide or prescription topical medications for 1 week prior to your appointment. This will avoid any irritation, redness, burning or itching during and after your treatment. This should also be avoided prior to waxing appointments. Please inform the esthetician of any medications internally and topically that you are taking at the time of your intake and first consultation or if anything has changed in your medical history since your last visit. If you have an active cold sore or any other contagious illness please contact your esthetician to reschedule your treatment. Please keep in mind that eye lash tints, individual false lashes, lash lifts, dermablading, and keratin treatments all require no steam and no water. Please schedule your facial treatments prior to any of these services so that the proper treatment can be provided at the time of the service. Thank you for your understanding.
POST-TREATMENT CARE:
Caring for your skin after your treatment is extremely important and crucial for proper healing and recovery. More intense treatments such as peels or microdermabrasion should follow special precautions. Facial treatments use a number of cleansing and exfoliating procedures to treat specific skin conditions and skin types. Sometimes a controlled damage needs to be done in order to speed up the collagen production and cell turnover of the skin. This is often done with chemical peels, dermaplaning and microdermabrasion. It is important to note that it is not actually damaging your skin. How often should you have a facial? CLICK HERE
Let's start by going over what to expect after a treatment:
Facial: Some redness and flushing can occur depending on your skin condition and type. Extractions can leave behind marks for a few days until fully healed. Please be patient, healing takes time.
Enzymes: Enzymes are a little stronger exfoliation than a scrub that's used in a signature facial. They use natural fruit acids and enzymes to eat away at the dead skin cells and reveal a brighter, clearer complexion. Expect to be a little pink post treatment, some dryness and flaking can occur for a few days depending on the strength of the enzyme.
Microdermabrasion: This treatment has very little downtime. This uses a tool to mechanically exfoliate the skin. It abrades the stratum corneum (the outer layer of the skin) to speed collagen production, remove dry, dead skin cells and to polish texture, pigmentation and keratinized skin. Slightly pink skin post treatment can be expected.
Peels: Peels are my strongest treatment and some downtime is expected. Peels take your skin anywhere from 1-10 days to fully heal depending on the strength and type of acid used during the treatment. Pro 5 Exfoliant is a very very gentle peel that has no sting during the treatment and has no downtime at all post treatment. Lactic peels are the next level up from my Pro 5 peel. This peel may feel itchy or slightly tingly on the skin until removed. You can expect some initial redness, dryness for a few days and possible minor flaking. Once your are fully recoverd, lactic peels bring hydration to the skin and help improve aging, increases collagen and evens skin tone. Glycolic peel is my most intense peel (but it is still mild). It has a little more itchiness and stinginess than the lactic peel but a similar recovery time. Expect some redness, dryness and flaking. Glycolic peels help with a number of skin conditions such as acne, scaring, pigmentation, oil production, large pores, aging, fine lines and wrinkles and tone and texture.
I always have samples of products that are helpful to the healing process after your treatment. If you feel you do not have the proper home care to treat your skin after your facial, enzyme, peel or microdermabrasion treatment, please let me know during your appointment to so I can send you home with the proper products. A skin care regimen will be suggested at the end of your appointment.
